MASAITI Town Council has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Rural Electrification Authority.
The event, which was held at Lowenthal Theatre in Ndola City, also saw Mpongwe and Ndola append their signatures on their M.O.U’s as well.
The understanding seeks to take electricity to the rural parts of the districts with funding from the increased Constituency Development Fund.
Government through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development guided that K1 million be set apart from the 2023 CDF allocation for electrification of public institutions in rural setups.
Speaking during the event, Ndola Mayor Jones Kalyati urged councils to partner as constituencies and government entities in order to bring electricity to as many people as possible.
He said electricity drives businesses regardless of the size or area the business is situated in.
Masaiti Town Council Chairperson Andrew Osman Lumano on the other end praised the New Dawn Government led by his Excellency The President Mr Hakainde Hichilema for the desire to take development to all corners of Zambia.
He remained optimistic that the M.O.U will yield results and enhance access to electricity in rural areas as part of the development agenda of the government.
Meanwhile, REA Chief Executive Officer Eng. Linus K Chanda stressed that CDF is specifically designed to empower local communities by allowing them to identify and prioritize development projects that cater to specified needs.
He said in this case, CDF is being utilized to electrify priority electrification sites (PREPs), thereby contributing to the overall well-being and progress of the Constituency.
Also present during the signing ceremony was Masaiti Town Council Secretary Mr. Trophius Kufanga and his counterparts from Ndola and Mpongwe.
