MASAITI CELEBRATES WORLD AIDS DAY

World AIDS Day Commemoration

Today, Masaiti gathered and joined the rest of the Nation in commemorating World AIDS Day held under the theme “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response”.

The event which was held at Masaiti’s Tug Argan market grounds highlighted the progress made in the fight against HIV/AIDS, while acknowledging the challenges posed by disruptions, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the removal of external donor funding.

Keynote speakers emphasized the need for continued commitment to:
– Enhanced testing and treatment access
– Addressing stigma and discrimination
– Strengthening healthcare systems
– Supporting community-led initiatives

The event featured testimonials from people living with HIV, showcasing resilience and hope.

“We still reaffirm our dedication to ending AIDS by 2030, recognizing the importance of sustained efforts to transform the response and overcome disruptions.” Observed Masaiti District Commissioner Madam Eernie Matutu.

Nationally, Zambia remains on track toward the 95 – 95 – 95 targets. Achieving 96 – 98 – 97 statistics on the fast track targets. Masaiti on the other hand, stands at 80 – 97 – 87 record.

Present during the event was Katuba Ward Councillor Laban Mbunda sitting in for the Council Chairperson Andrew Lumano, Chondwe Ward Councillor Charles Nyirenda flanked by Heads of Government official and representatives of the Royal establishment.
